With 18 holes remaining in the 2010 Egyptian Amateur Open, England’s Eddie Pepperell holds the top spot with England’s Jack Senior and South African Thabo Maseko in tied second one shot further back. An event, the oldest Amateur event in the region that dates back to 1908, will award the top 5 players with invites to the 2010 Egyptian Open which will be played at JW Marriott, Mirage City Golf course in Cairo from October 20th to 23rd 2010. Pepperell following his opening round of 74 with an impressive 69 in strong winds for 1 under 143 total. Fellow Englishman Jack Senior managed a second consecutive level par 72 for a 144 total, 1 shot back. In third place is South African Thabo Maseko who followed his opening round of 69 with 75 to finish tied with Senior on 144. In fourth place is UAE Ahmed Al Mosharekh on 148, with a three way tie in 5th and the final qualifying place on 152 between Egypt’s Abdel Monem El Shafei, Saudi Arabia’s Khaled Attiah and Bahrain’s Hamad Mubarak.
The third and final round at Katameya Heights Golf and Tennis Resort gets under way at 8.30AM tomorrow, with the leading group playing at 11.20.
